Utter Disbelief...

John works as the State Director for a large (well-known and respected) organisation that provides services & accommodation for people with a disability. On Tuesday evening he came home looking somewhat bemused and recounted the following reported to him by one of his Managers.

Person A is his Manager, Person B is a contact that works for a State Government Department. A has been in daily contact with B regarding finding a service for one of their clients, I'll call the client C. This situation has been going on for some time.

A: Is anything happening with our request for C ??

B: No, not as yet, in fact I will not be handling C's case file any more, I have referred it to my supervisor for her attention...

A: Oh, would she be in please, I would like to speak with her ??

B. No, she is not in at the moment...

A. When would be a good time to speak with her ??

B: Actually there isn't a good time to speak with her, she is on leave at present...

A: Okay...

B: As a matter of fact I am acting in her position while she is absent...

WTF ???

At this point in time I am incredulous.

Does B actually realise the utter stupidity of what he was saying..?? I doubt it. Keep in mind that B is a Manager in a State managed government department, almost certainly with a university qualification, a number of years experience and a commensurate salary.

People like this give the Public Service it's much maligned reputation. Days later I am still gobsmacked.

For Braja...

In the vein of this post and the ensuing hilarity that followed, and upon Braja's specific request I now present my latest find at our lovely Asian Grocery Store. Matilda & I were out shopping this morning for some things she needs for her trip to Noumea in 3 weeks. After reading Lilly's Life and finding a recipe for Duck Rice Paper Rolls I just HAD to have them...John & I both adore duck and take any opportunity to indulge we can, even keep a few Peking Duck breasts in the freezer for "emergencies". We whizzed down to the Asian Grocery Shop for a few things...fresh watercress, coriander, rice paper wrappers, hoi sin sauce as well as a few bits that weren't on the list.

I could not quite believe what I found in the "personal" section of the store...

Placenta Cream...!!!

The ingredient list was long and difficult to decipher...about half way down the list was the ingredient "Placenta Enzymes". It didn't say what type of placenta was included, I can only assume it wasn't human and was probably sheep or cow.

Surely..??

Utterly bizarre...

After coffee we headed home and made the rice paper rolls...I made them with shredded chicken as I had some poached free range fillets in the fridge...also made some vermicelli rolls for Matilda (she is vegetarian, she is almost 15 and has been for almost half her life now...see what happens when you encourage your children to think and form opinions of their own...)

I had a quick sample and they are delicious, will be delightful to have with a drink very shortly. Actually it may be the last wine I have for a week or two...I have to refrain from consuming alcohol 48 hours before the anaesthetic...that gives me until 7am tomorrow.

Rated PG-13...

For a bit of fun I checked out my Blog's rating and scored a PG-13. Parents are strongly advised that some material may be unsuitable for children under 13.

Just because I mention the words Pain (x3), Dead (x2), Death (x1). Funny that it didn't pick up the F-Bombs I dropped a couple of weeks ago.

Rather bizarre...

...and I thought I had seen it all...

This afternoon Matilda and I went to see Mamma Mia...we felt like a girls afternoon out and couldn't think of anything better to do. The film was great fun, we loved it...I remembered all of the lyrics to the soundtrack (as did many others in the audience judging from the singing) and it was fun spotting the ABBA cameos. I want to swim in the sea surrounding the Greek Islands now, it was turquoise and glittery, just beautiful.

Afterwards we wandered through the Asian Grocery Store near the cinema. I love those places, always full of strange & wonderful ingredients...we do quite a bit of shopping there. I was perusing the toiletries/personal hygiene section and look what I found...

PINK NIPPLE CREAM...!!!



Utterly bizarre...!!! Are pink nipples desired by Asian women...or perhaps Asian men..?? There was also various unguents to whiten armpits and facial skin, to get rid of stretch marks and cellulite, to whiten teeth and burn fat.

...and I thought I had seen it all...

And yes, for those who are curious, I did buy a tube (on sale at $7.50)...I just had to...it captured my sense of the absurd. Not sure if I will ever try it out though. Perhaps I can use it on one nipple and have the other as the "control" sample.
